About
Welcome to Mei Mei, a delightful culinary gem nestled in the heart of London, specifically at Unit 52 Rochester Walk, SE1 9AF. As a food reviewer for Foodjoyy, I had the pleasure of diving into this vibrant eatery that is celebrated for its authentic Singaporean flavors and friendly atmosphere.
Mei Mei offers a diverse menu that beckons food lovers with dishes that reflect rich culinary traditions. One standout item is the Hainanese Chicken Rice. Priced at £13.00, it features tender chicken paired with flavorful rice, a dish renowned for its balance of simplicity and taste. Diners rave about the savory, juicy chicken, often declaring it the best they’ve had in the UK. This dish is thoughtfully complemented by an Achar pickles and chicken broth in the set option for just £16.00, intensifying the meal experience.
For those seeking a cozy brunch option, the Kaya Toast is a must-try. At £7.00, this delectable treat combines Hainanese kaya, thick butter, and perfectly toasted bread. The Kaya Toast Set elevates this with soft-boiled eggs and a hot drink for only £11.00, making it a delightful start to your day.
Another dish that caught my attention was the Char Siu Pork (£14.50), which perfectly balances sweetness and smokiness, offering a taste that lingers long after the last bite. The Nasi Lemak is yet another highlight, with coconut rice, fried anchovies, and crispy fried egg, presenting a harmony of textures and flavors at just £13.50.
As I observed the bustling kitchen, I couldn't help but admire the dedication of Auntie Liz, who prepares many of the dishes herself alongside her hardworking team. It’s this care and passion that leads to the authentic flavors that Mei Mei is known for. Customers like 'Choon Hui' have praised the experience, noting that the effort to reach this eatery with little ones in tow is well worth it for the exquisite food.
As you savor each dish—whether it’s a SINGAPORE CHICKEN CURRY for £13.00 or the Fried Chicken Rice at £13.50—there’s a warmth that envelops you, reminding you of the beautiful unity that food brings. I personally fell in love with their Iced Bandung, a refreshing drink that perfectly complements the spice of the dishes.
Overall, Mei Mei stands out in the London food scene not just for its delicious offerings but also for its commitment to quality and service. If you're in the city, don’t miss the chance to indulge in this Singaporean treasure. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a vibrant experience worth every bite.
“ Had the hainanese chicken rice and the chasiu rice. Both super delicious. The chicken is so tender and flavorful. The price is a bit high though. Each rice cost 15 pounds. I don’t know this is due to inflation or the holiday season... but I find it worth it given Mei Mei is located in the most touristy spot in London, even though I can’t afford to eat it everyday :) It’s epic I get to see auntie Liz in action. She prepared all the dishes herself. Her crew had a hard time keeping up though. :D ”
“ Great Singapore food. Perfect Kaya Toast Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Kopi was delicious. Self service kiosk order. ”
“ Good enough food for a food market, especially considering less crowded and some spaces for sitting. Their signature hainan chicken is savory and tender. The portion is small though so you won’t be full but plus points for more other snacks. ”
“ I love the food and drinks at Mei Mei! Especially the Iced Bandung! When I fly to London, I go there at least once. The Hainanese Chicken Rice is not simply rice with chicken, it‘s more than that. ”
“ Well worth the trip, even trekking across London with a baby and toddler to be here, it was absolutely worth it! The Hainanese chicken was nothing short of perfection, easily the best we’ve had in the UK. The flavors were authentic, and every bite was delightful. My wife and I left not just satisfied but genuinely impressed. Thank you for an unforgettable dining experience. Please keep up the amazing work—we can’t wait to return! ”
“ I tried Nasi Lemak, it was delicious, although the real Nasi Lemak should have beef rendang, but they changed it into fried chicken, and it was still tasty. But the portion wasn't much. The drink was also good. Seatings are available at the food stall, and also at the seating area provided by the market. ”
“ We went to borough markets and it was crazy busy, a slow crawl moving anywhere. Most eateries has lines of disgruntled people, bitterly and impatiently waiting. Not Mei Mei, the staff were super friendly, we used the handy touch screen to customise our food and it came out probably within minutes of ordering. We got the Hainanese chicken rice, the rice was super flavourful, the chicken broth that came with it was equally tasty. It was on the pricier end of the spectrum, but when you eat it you can taste why it’s priced this way. We also got the fried chicken and rice, another 10/10. Couldn’t speak more highly of the overall experience, would love to go again! ”
“ I recently tried the Hainanese Chicken Rice at Mei Mei, and it was absolutely delicious! The dish was wonderfully tasty and incredibly flavourful. A definite must-try for anyone looking for Singaporean flavours. ”
